On November 24, 2022, on the day of Alfred Schnittke’s birth, Schnittke’s Choral Concerto, based on the text by Grigor Narekatsi, was performed at the Moscow International House of Music in the new hall named after the outstanding composer. This world-renowned masterpiece, written in the universal style of sacred music steeped in archaic elements, is undoubtedly one of the most profound works, exerting an almost hypnotic effect on the audience. Grigor Narekatsi (from Narek) was an outstanding medieval religious writer and poet (951-1003). Valery Bryusov called his inspired spiritual poems from the Book of Mournful Chants “sacred elegies.”
